Kadlec Clinic - West Kennewick Primary Care
- Location: Kennewick, WA
The West Kennewick Primary Care clinic is the result of refinements to a clinical model that has been developed and refined for the Kadlec Regional Medical Center and Providence Health and Services. The concept governing the layout of this facility was the creation of clear zones of activities.
The patients enter the front zone that is comprised of reception, waiting area, and public toilets. The middle zone is where clinical encounters between staff and patients occur. The middle zone includes exam rooms, specimen toilets, and at the center of the diagram, imaging, procedure, and financial services have a shared area. The back zone is dedicated exclusively to staff, where open clinical work areas along with staff support spaces are located.
The separation of clinic encounter and staff work areas improves the overall flow and efficiency, and perhaps more importantly, protects privacy and improves teaming functions. Primary care medicine is increasingly shifting to a model of team care that requires a team of caregivers to work closely together. This configuration allows them to do so without concerns of breaching patient confidentiality. The quality of the patient experience is improved as they are not exposed to activities of the staffing area.
