Swedish Medical Group’s new facility at the Landing in Renton was recently opened with the goal of providing greater access to healthcare services. This is supporting the larger three-part strategy to improve availability and access to primary care, drive down healthcare costs and improve patient experience. It is in the center of a commercial retail development with easy access and convenient parking. The facility is also within walking distance to the Boeing plant providing easy access for thousands of Boeing employees.
The facility is three clinics that include primary care, musculoskeletal services, and a specialty clinic. The primary care clinic has an on-stage / off-stage configuration. This approach created a central work area for clinical staff that is separate from patient and visitor flow. This dedicated space allows clinical teams to work freely together without compromising patient privacy, improving the quality of healthcare delivery. The central location also reduces travel distances, increasing the efficiency of the clinic. Additionally, this special configuration shields the patient from the busyness and activity of the clinic, creating a more peaceful healing environment. Musculoskeletal services included both clinical services as well as physical therapy.
In addition to access and visibility, placing the clinic in a traditional retail space provided the facility with lots of glass, allowing natural light to pour into the public spaces of the clinic. This combined with the warm and upbeat finishes projects a sense of confidence and professional care. Another feature are the large exam rooms that accommodate the patient, family members and clinical staff. Each exam room contains a computer station allowing real-time access to medical records and clinical information improving the quality of the patient/staff encounter. Also used here is the new ‘Versus’ software system that physically tracks staff, patients, and equipment in the facility, reducing confusion and increasing efficiency.
